How Moon Phases Astrology Affect Your Love Life

It is often said that ‘love is in the air’. Well, it’s also said that really special moments take place ‘once in a blue moon’. Which is true, as the various moon phases often have an effect (either positive or negative) on our relationships.

Do you notice that sometimes your love life is all hunky-dory and smooth-flowing, whereas at other times it is filled with arguments, fighting, rejections and break-ups? This is sometimes also due to the effect of the particular moon phase at that point in time, which might be influencing all these highs and lows and ups and downs in your love life (or life in general).

This blog post sheds light on how the different phases of the moon in astrology affect your love life. So before pouring your heart out to the love of your life; or popping that all-important question, make sure you read this article.

The Science Behind the Moon Phases

First things first, it’s essential to understand why and how the moon looks different at different times of the month. In other words, why does it have phases and isn’t always round?

Every day (and night) as the moon orbits around the Earth, the section of the moon that faces the sun will be lit up, causing the moon to have different looking shapes and sizes (crescent moon, half moon, full moon). The section of the moon that faces the sun and is lit up is what we can see from planet Earth. These different shapes and angles of the moon are referred to as the different phases of the moon.

Scientifically, the phase of the moon is the same at the same time around the world, however, depending on the location of the person viewing it, the moon is tilted at different angles (for instance, the moon phase in the Southern hemisphere is always observed inverted to that of the Northern hemisphere).

The Moon Phases and your Love Life: How is it all connected?

According to intuitive coach and relationship expert Alexandra Roxo, each lunar phase is believed to have a particular effect on one’s emotions and general energy levels. Which is why it’s crucial to plan important events (whether related to your love life or business transactions or life in general) according to the cycle of the moon. Dating and relationships are complicated at the best of times, and true romance and love is not always easy to come by, so if a natural phenomenon can help make it easier, why not make the best of it?

Roxo goes on to add that the moon represents our subconscious and is the “ultimate feminine”; and the lunar connection is especially strong for women (it’s related to a woman’s menstrual cycle, but we won’t get into the details in this post).

How to plan your Love Life according to the Phases of the Moon

Now, before you get carried away, it’s important to know that just because you are using the moon’s phases to your love-life’s advantage, it doesn’t mean that you will immediately find the love of your life and all will be eternally well. A moon’s particular phase will have a negative or positive effect on you and your energy and your mood in general, which could help in a shift of attitude; but you will still need to do some work to woo your loved one (or work at your relationship if you are already in one). Don’t expect magic to occur overnight just because you are in a good moon phase!

Unless you are really interested in astrology and how the moon and stars are connected to your star sign, date of birth etc, you don’t need to dwell deep into analyzing the phases of the moon. Just knowing the basics of each stage’s effect on your mood and personality is enough to help you navigate your love life.

New moon: Plan

Every lunar cycle starts with a new moon, which symbolises new beginnings or a fresh start. So this is ideally the best time to set your intentions for what you wish to manifest (for instance set up your online dating profile). It’s also a good time to make plans.

Waxing moon: Work on your intentions

There are around two weeks between a new moon and a full moon, during which time the moon appears to be growing larger in the sky. This is the time to act - work on your intentions and the plans you set out in the new moon phase. The moon’s energy is perfect for helping you achieve what you desire.

So go on that first date; take a leap of faith in your relationship and introduce your partner to your family (or if married, take your relationship to the next level and start planning a family if that’s what you desire). Basically, act and do rather than hope and wish.

Full moon: Go the distance

The full moon is a time associated with celebration; this is when you have to amplify your intention, go the distance and take your relationship to the next level.

However, be mindful that the energy of the full moon is extremely high, so things could backfire if you’re not careful. Being aware of this and taking sensible steps in the achievement of your goal will get you results.

Waning moon: Time to introspect

The final two weeks of the lunar cycle are all about slowing down and introspection. Let things take their own course and happen in their own time - don’t force situations or people. This is the time when the energy quiets down a bit - you’ve put in the effort, done what you had to, now let things happen organically.

This is also a practical time, so if there are any important conversations to have or decisions to make, this is a good time to do so.
